How to Program a Toyota Camry Remote

How to Program a Toyota Camry Remote

Owners of Camry models with power door locks and keyless remote-entry systems can purchase replacement remotes as needed from Toyota dealerships or websites such as keyless-remotes.com. Remotes purchased directly from Toyota will cost more but can be programmed by the dealer. Aftermarket remotes purchased online will be less expensive but require programming by the vehicle owner before initial use.

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

    • 1

Enter the car and make sure all doors are closed. Unlock and open the driver door with the ignition key in hand. Within 5 seconds, insert and remove the key from the ignition twice. Within 40 seconds, close and open the driver door twice then insert and remove the key from the ignition.

    • 2

Perform the following tasks within 40 seconds to enter remote programming mode. Close and open the driver door twice. Insert the key in the ignition and close the driver door. Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position then back to the "off" position. Remove the key from the ignition. The door locks will cycle within 3 seconds to indicate the vehicle has entered programming mode. If the door locks do not cycle, repeat all steps to enter programming mode.

    • 3

Perform the following tasks within 40 seconds of entering programming mode to program the remote. Press the "lock" and "unlock" buttons on the remote to be programmed for 1.5 seconds. Release both buttons and immediately press and hold the "lock" button on the remote for 2 seconds. The door locks will cycle once within 3 seconds to indicate the remote was programmed successfully. If the door locks cycle twice, programming was unsuccessful and the tasks in this step need to be repeated.

    • 4

Repeat all tasks in the previous step to program additional remotes. Open the driver door to exit remote-programming mode. Test each remote by locking and unlocking the power door locks of the vehicle using the remote.

Tips & Warnings

  • As programming may reset the remote entry code for the vehicle, it is recommended that all remotes (including older, working remotes) be programmed during this process.
