How to Change the Cabin Air Filter in a Toyota Avalon

Many newer cars now come with a cabin air filter as well as an engine air filter. The engine air filter is located in the engine compartment and filters out debris and pollutants from contaminating the engine and maintaining optimum combustion. The cabin air filter may be located in a couple of different areas and filter out the air for the passenger cab. Cabin air filters are relatively new to automobile equipment and are often overlooked. Clogged or dirty cabin air filters can reduce airflow through the cabin vents, as well as allow allergen and other pollutants into the passenger compartment. Replacing them yourself on a Toyota Avalon is a fairly simply procedure and will save you money on labor charges and the local repair shop. A new filter will also increase the quality of air you're breathing while you drive.

• Phillips screwdriver

     Open the glove box and empty out the contents.

   • 2

     Locate the glove box stop on the right side of the glove box. Remove the screw of the stop with a Phillips screwdriver. The box will drop down and you can just let it dangle.

     Locate the white filter frame behind the glove box. You will be able to see it now with the glove box dangling. You will notice a wire harness on the left side of the filter frame. Just move it more to the left to get it out of the way.

     Push in the lock tabs on each side of the filter frame and pull the filter frame out.

     Remove the old filter from the filter frame.

     Insert new filter into frame making sure to tuck the filter under the holding tabs on both the left and right side of the frame.

     Slide the filter frame back into place and make sure the lock tabs are secure in place. Reposition the wire harness.

     Lift up the glove box and reconnect the glove box stop by replacing the screw.
